My Name is Paul Desson-Baxter and I have the honour of being the Chair of the Coventry Pride Board of Trustees, over the last year the Board has worked tirelessly to establish Coventry Pride as a registered Charity and also to organise a Pride festival which would represent the diverse communities of Coventry’s LGBT+ Community and also reflect the unique cultural identity of Coventry. With the help of our wonderful main sponsors Coventry University and the University of Warwick, and further support from Coventry City Council and the backing of the Big Lottery Fund, we managed to finance the festival.
The two day festival started with a wondrous walk from Coventry Cathedral through the city centre culminating in an amazing picture of the 200+ people who came out to show solidarity with the Coventry LGBT+ community. The festival continued with events spread through the city at Escape Games, Drapers Bar, Rainbows, the transport museum forecourt, Methodist Central Hall and also in Coventry’s libraries, the main festival was celebrated at Fargo Village which played host to Community Workshops, a community and information zone, Market hall, Street Food, Street Artists and three stages crammed with entertainment from solo artists to Choirs and bands to Cabaret.
It was a momentous weekend and the 40+ hour weeks in the lead up to the event on top of my day job were worth the effort, and the 7500+ people who turned up to celebrate made last weekend one which I will always have fond memories of.
The gallery below gives a feel for the whole weekend.
So Thank you to each and every one of you who attended and made Coventry Pride 2016 the success that it was, and here’s to Coventry Pride 2017.
